Abia Elections: Tribunal Receives Petition to Oust Abia Speaker from Office

The House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abia State has received a petition seeking to oust the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kanu, from office. The petition was filed by the All Progressives Congress House of Assembly candidate for Isiala Ngwa South state constituency seat in the just-concluded election, Nnaemeka Otagburuagu. The APC candidate, in the petition filed at the tribunal is challenging the declaration of Kalu, as winner of the March 9 State Assembly election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, in Isiala Ngwa south local government area of the state. Otagburuagu claimed that the House of Assembly election held in Isiala Ngwa south constituency was marred by excessive malpractices ranging from alteration of the election results by the respondent(Speaker). The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, has asked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, to investigate the role of his officers and men in the violence that occurred during the general elections. Speaking on Wednesday at the party’s secretariat in Yenagoa, the Chairman of PDP, Moses Cleopas, said that the activities of the army deployed in Brass, Nembe and Southern Ijaw, LGAs should be queried by the military. He wondered why the army had kept sealed lips on the killing of two PDP members in Southern Ijaw LGA without provocation by soldiers. He further took a swipe at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, wondering why the commission declared 3 constituencies in Brass, Ogbia and Southern Ijaw already won by PDP candidates as inconclusive. Udom wins 2019 election with a grand style!

Udom Emmanuel Wins  Akwa Ibom Governorship Election. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the gubernatorial election in Akwa Ibom State. By this, the candidate of the party, Udom Emmanuel, who is the incumbent governor has successfully actualised his second term ambition. The governor polled 519,712 votes to emerged victorious. He was trailed by Nsima Ekere of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who came second with 171,978 votes. This was announced by the state returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Faraday Orunmwense, a professor and vice chancellor of the University of Benin. Mr Orunmwense, in the presence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the state, Mike Igini, made the announcement at the headquarters of the electoral body early on Monday morning.

Atiku Warns Buhari Ahead of Saturday Presidential Poll

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of Saturday’s elections. Abubakar warned that history would condemn Buhari if Saturday’s presidential election was not free and fair. The former Vice President, who spoke on Tuesday in Abuja, also alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had equipped many of their members with unnamed devices that could slow down or quicken the Smart Card Readers during the presidential poll.
