ASUU Strike: Lecturers Threaten Fresh Action Against Govt The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kano State University of Science and Technology (KUST) Wudil branch, has threatened to embark on a fresh strike immediately after the nationwide strike, if the state government failed to meet its demands. The ASUU KUST branch chairman, Mahadi Lawal-Yakubu issued the threat on Tuesday when he led members of the union on a courtesy visit to the Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Rurum, NAN reports. Lawal-Yakubu told newsmen shortly after the visit that they were at the House to intimate the Speaker about their problems as well as other issues affecting the union. ASUU: Strike Continues As Union Demands Strong Commitment From FG Channels Television Leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has insisted that there is no going back on its ongoing nationwide strike. The union stated this despite meeting with the Federal Government on Monday in Abuja to resollecturers which led to the industrial action in the universities that has lasted over two months. The meeting reconvened by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, with the leaders of the union led by ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, failed to bring an end to the strike as the issues could not be resolved. The striking lecturers insisted that the Federal Government must show a strong commitment to funding and revitalisation of universities before they would suspend the industrial action. He said that after due consultations with its executives across the country, they have resolved to continue the ongoing strike until the Federal Governments pays at least N220 billion out of N1.1 trillion it owed the public universities. He said that universities lecturers  had   rejected the Federal Government offer  of money to end the strike because it was far from their demands. The lecturer confirmed that the Federal Government had, through the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Ministry of Finance presented  to the union the evidence of  the payment of N15.4 billion to  universities last Tuesday....
