How do I detox my liver? If bloated, headachy and not losing weight

by Daily Mirror Your liver has a big job: within the three pints of blood that flow through it every minute, you’ll find dead cells, micro-organisms, chemicals, and fat globules – all of which have to be processed and filtered. And while the liver is fantastic at its job, sometimes it’s worth giving it a helping hand to remove toxins. It’s not just what we eat that can affect our liver, the body naturally produces toxins (like acetaldehyde and oxalic acid) as part of normal cell function. Your liver’s role is to eliminate excess ones that may do harm. The problems come when you put in more than you can eliminate. Our hunter gatherer ancestors’ livers weren’t exposed to the many environmental and food toxins we are today, and our livers have to work harder because we overload them, so it’s important to give them a regular clean up. So nutritionist and life coach Janet Thomson shows us how to give our livers a well-needed holiday... How a detox can help Your liver will ...

Why you should not drink on Antibiotics

Why You’re Not Supposed to Drink on Antibiotics by Refinery29 You were responsible enough to go to the doctor and get antibiotics for your pesky urinary tract infection, but you also have a happy hour tonight that you do not want to miss. Technically, you're not "supposed to" drink when you're taking antibiotics, but what's the worst thing that could happen if you crack open a cold one tonight? You might have heard from a well-meaning friend that drinking on antibiotics just "makes you get drunker, faster," but it's actually more complex than that. There are two main reasons why you should avoid alcohol while on a course of antibiotics: There's potential for increased side effects, and the alcohol could interact with the drug's ability to do its job, explains Stephen Ferrara, RN, DNP, RNC-BC, associate dean for clinical affairs at Columbia University School of Nursing, who oversees its faculty practice, ColumbiaDoctors Primary Care Nu...

The 5 Most Addictive Substances on Earth – and What They Do to Your Brain

The 5 Most Addictive Substances on Earth – and What They Do to Your Brain by Science Alert What are the most addictive drugs? This question seems simple, but the answer depends on whom you ask. From the points of view of different researchers, the potential for a drug to be addictive can be judged in terms of the harm it causes, the street value of the drug, the extent to which the drug activates the brain's dopamine system, how pleasurable people report the drug to be, the degree to which the drug causes withdrawal symptoms, and how easily a person trying the drug will become hooked. There are other facets to measuring the addictive potential of a drug, too, and there are even researchers who argue that no drug is always addictive. Given the varied view of researchers, then, one way of ranking addictive drugs is to ask expert panels. In 2007, David Nutt and his colleagues asked addiction experts to do exactly that – with some interesting findings. 1. Heroin Nutt et ...

3 Things You Should Do When Someone Criticizes You

Written by Aby I don’t think there is anyone that really enjoys being criticized…correct me if i’m wrong though. Even if we don’t like it, we have to accept it because it contributes to our growth process. There’s definitely nobody that likes the quality of their work being questioned or their decisions challenged, but the thing is, the way you handle criticism is what determines your quality, as a person and in your craft. The willingness to accept and take corrections. I personally don’t take criticism very well at first…I get defensive initially before I start to see reason in what you’re saying. I was talking to a friend of mine recently and he told me he is scared to criticize me sometimes because of how I react *sigh*. If you criticize me, I will gruel you with questions…but hey, I have to at least defend myself don’t I? I like constructive criticism, don’t come condemning something about me and then not offering any reasonable advise. I don’t take such people seri...

She said this when she appeared before the British Parliament’s International Development Committee.
